HOW DOES MY HOME AFFECT MY
LIFE?
It is gradually being recognised that the homes we
choose, the furniture and items we have inside them and
the way we arrange these all have an impact on our lives.
Our own energy flow and life experience can be affected
by the home we have chosen to live in, and what we have
surrounded ourselves with, within it.
Different aspects of the home will have an effect on
areas of the lives of its inhabitants. Some of the
principles relating to the way our homes are chosen,
lived in and set out, and the areas in which our lives
and those of our loved ones can be affected by our
dwellings are described in the following paragraphs.
COLOUR
This has a huge bearing on our personal atmosphere and
sense of well being. Each colour has its own meaning and
effect within the home. Combinations of colours can be
chosen to create different moods.
Choosing the wrong colours for you personally or fir
those who share your living space can be disastrous. A
relaxing colour in a workroom, while avoiding some
degrees of stress, can mean your energy never achieves
its maximum potential for your desired level of success.
An unemotional colour scheme in a bedroom can cause a
lack or lessening of passion. And a colour which promotes
appetite, in the dining room of a household looking to
lose weight., may mean that the inhabitants are creating
a no-win situation for tem selves.
Applying basic principles of colour therapy to your home
can make a tremendous difference. Areas of the home which
have previously seemed to drain your resources can
suddenly become energised and supportive to you.
Colour is clearly one of these easiest features to alter
in a home, usually just involving redecoration.

LAYOUT
Often there will seem to be little you can do to alter
the layout of the home you inhabit. The way the building
itself, and any outside space belonging to it, is set out
may be determined by its immediate environment, the size
or shape of the plot, or rules pertaining to planning
permission in the area. Additionally wiring, plumbing and
drainage, and positions of walls, doors and windows, may
decide the positions of items within rooms.
But if there is a negative aspect affecting one or more
of these, there are often steps you can take to minimise
any problems arising from them, or even turn the
situation to the advantage of those who live there.
DIRECTION
In many eastern traditions, the direction in which the
home faces is of paramount importance and determines the
nature of the experience of those living within it. It is
useful to be aware of this factor and to choose colours
and other factors which support the direction of the home
rather than undermine or challenge it.
PLACEMENT
If you own your own home or are in control of its design,
you may be in a position to make creative decisions about
where things are put in the home, what they represent and
this how they will function in this situation.
Feng Shui, or the art of placement, examines both of the
above, ie. the layout of the home and the placement of
articles within it, to determine whether 'chi' energy
will flow unobstructed through the house and, if not, how
changes can be made to introduce a more positive
environment for the 'chi' of the person(s) living there.
CLUTTER
Nothing prevents positive energy flow throughout a home
more effectively than spaces filled with clutter.
Items no longer in use, old paperwork, unwieldy
collections, unsupervised piles of anything provide a
magnet for negative energy and can create blockages or
stagnant areas in the lives of the inhabitants of the
house.
HOME NUMBER
The number of the house can either positively support or
else be 'out-of-tune' with whoever is living there.
Knowing what your own life numbers are and comparing
these with those of your home can provide a useful
insight of what is likely to be your experience of living
there, and what steps you can take to improve this.
